Lieutenant Governor Matt Michels says Medicaid is one of the more difficult issues to talk about in the legislature this session. He says it covers a wide variety of areas, and cuts in provider rates to smaller facilities will have a different impact than cuts to a larger hospital. He says the Governor's office has been working with providers to find the best solution. He says the administration wants the public to know that when it comes to Medicaid, education, and other issues, balancing the budget it the best option.
"The world is not going to end," Michels says. "Having been an emergency department nurse I've seen crisis. Certainly a number of you listening here have had crisis in your life. These are problems, they're manageable, and we're going to get over it as the Governor said."
Michels says compared to other states, South Dakota is doing relatively well. He believes the state's budget problem is at a manageable level.
