All Senators on the Education Committee support a bill that increases the bonding limit for technical education to $105 million. Current law limits that to $80 million.
Republican Todd Schlekeway says the bonding authority will help the state’s technical education progress.
"Giving the tech schools the ability to keep up with their explosive growth is important," Schlekeway says. "And every time I drive to Pierre from Sioux Falls at the beginning of every week, it’s amazing to drive by Mitchell and see this transformation taking place on the southern half of I-90."
Schlekeway is talking about the campus development at Mitchell Technical Institute. Education authorities say that’s just part of the overall development plans at South Dakota’s four tech schools.
The bonding increase bill now goes to the Senate floor.
