New Adjutant General
Air Date:03/03/2011

Governor Dennis Daugaard has appointed South Dakota National Guard Brigadier General Tim Reisch as Adjutant General and Secretary of the new Department of the Military. Reisch is a 32 year veteran of the South Dakota Army National Guard, and has served as Secretary of the state Department of Corrections since 2003. Reich says the National Guard has never been more equipped, competent or heavily relied on as they are today. He says the country has been at war for nine years, and South Dakota soldiers have distinguished themselves time and time again.
"Tragically, seven of our National Guard soldiers have been killed since the fighting began," Reisch says. "So the stakes are very high and I must admit that it's a bit of a daunting task to take on these responsibilities during time of war. But I know with God's guidance and with the assistance of our many remarkable leaders in our organization, the tremendous legacy of the South Dakota National Guard will continue."
Reisch's appointment takes effect April second. He takes the place of Major General Steven Doohen, who is retiring.
