A bill that creates a wind energy task force has made it through the House of Representatives in Pierre.
Republican Val Rausch says the study needs to happen now, considering the country’s economic situation.
"The wind energy in our state has not slowed down, and the wind does not quit blowing, and the need to continue to look at those projects and ways to make sure we stay competitive with our neighboring states is probably more important now today as everyone is competing for economic development projects than it probably ever has been," Rausch says.
Democrat Bernie Hunhoff tried to amend the bill to remove a portion that allows wind energy companies to contribute money for the task force study. The amendment didn’t pass.
The House approved Senate Bill 194 by a vote of 57 to 13.
