Governor Daugaard says he plans on signing the budget passed by lawmakers. He says it accomplishes everything he laid out in his budget address earlier this session. Daugaard says the budget fixes the state’s structural deficit in one year without using reserves, one-time funds or raising taxes.
“So the budget has really been a wonderful outcome in my opinion. Having the, having the structural deficit be eliminated is something I think South Dakota can be proud of and it will give us a firm financial footing for the future,” Daugaard says.
The budget cuts all government agencies by at least ten percent. It cuts Medicaid and education funding by around 6 percent.
