Lawmakers cleared of accusations

A legislative panel has refuted several accusations brought against House Republican Leadership and staff on the Legislative Research Council. The accusations include interfering with legislative research and requesting to review bill drafts before made public.
Representative Joni Cutler chaired the panel investigating the allegations. Cutler says the panel found no wrong-doing by leadership or LRC staff. She says the claims made were nothing but unsubstantiated rumors.
Cutler says, “Instead of verifying the facts these rumors were then carried by the accusers to a level that publicly attacked the dignity, respect, and integrity of the legislative process, individual legislators and the LRC staff they accused. None of the allegations, accusations or complaints is supported by any credible testimony or other evidence. The claims are simply without merit.”
Representative Stace Nelson is one of the lawmakers bringing the complaints. Nelson says his concerns are valid. He says the panel did not hold a proper investigation and refused to take testimony from a key witness.
