South Dakota WINS
Air Date:01/10/2012
Governor Dennis Daugaard says certain businesses can't expand in South Dakota. He says companies like the business climate, but there aren't enough skilled workers to meet their needs. His South Dakota Workforce Initiatives is a 20-point plan to train and prepare South Dakotans for a rapidly growing economy. His plan promotes preparing children, training certified welders, increasing the number of rural health care workers, and attracting new South Dakotans. Republican Representative Mark Willadsen says it's good foresight by the governor to move South Dakota forward.
"And we want to bring new companies and such to South Dakota. That's great, but we have to have the employees to work there too. I think this is a proposal that could help us in that, and help us grow economically and make South Dakota a better place to live," says Representative Wiledstead.
The governor says his South Dakota WINS plan is funded by a mix of general funds, one time funds, and departments reallocating funds. Click here to download audio.
