Air Date:01/11/2012
At least one State University president is looking forward to Governor Dennis Daugaard's proposal to reward math and science teachers. Northern State University President Jim Smith says he expects more students to look into that area if the measure passes.
Smith says, "We're very excited. We've seen an increase in math and science interest in the past couple years-we have a strong history of preparing math and science teachers. So the discussion from the Governor yesterday was very exciting for us, particularly for those in our school of education."
Smith has advice for high school students interested in math and science at the college level-he says they should take as many challenging courses in those fields as possible. Smith says that makes collegiate science and math courses less difficult.
