Thursday was a sad day for many people in South Dakota including one for Legislators in Pierre as word got around former Governor Bill Janklow passed away.
Legislators cancel legislative sessions next Tuesday and Wednesday in honor of Janklow.
Minority Leader Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says working with Janklow was complicated at times but the former Governor accomplished many things in the state.
"He'll go down in history as one of the two or three that really made a difference in life in South Dakota and he loved the state dearly, no question about that and he always fought for what he thought was right and he's going to be deeply missed," Hunhoff says.
There will be a memorial service for Legislators in Pierre Tuesday and Janklow's funeral will be held in Sioux Falls - Wednesday.
