SB 62 Bill passed to Floor
Air Date:01/24/2012
A bill that allows people to bring their own wine and take home any leftovers from certain establishments unanimously passed the Senate Commerce and Energy committee. Unanimously passed Senate Bill 62 which now goes to the Senate floor.
Senator Phyllis Heineman of Sioux Falls says Senate Bill 62 is consumer oriented. It allows the customer to purchase their preferred type of wine in a bottle instead of a glass. She says the bill allows restaurants to reseal the bottle.
“The entrepreneurial spirit of people is great – they’ve created these bags that can be sealed and with the sales receipt on top of it so you can show that it is actually resealed. The remaining wine will be there to drink another day,” Heineman says.
No one spoke against the bill. But State Senator Mark Johnston says more needs to be done to modernize commerce laws in South Dakota.
