SB 62 Fee
Air Date:01/24/2012
Senate Bill 62 passed unanimously in the senate Commerce and Energy committee. State Senator Mark Johnston of Sioux Falls supports the legislation that permits certain alcoholic beverage licensees to allow customers to bring in their own wine and charge a corkage fee.
He says more needs to be done to modernize commerce laws. Johnston says while he supports the bill, it opens one door but closes another.
"I continue to struggle with the fact that we're allowing the citizens legally to bring in a bottle of wine into a restaurant. But then at the same time we don't allow a winery in California to ship me a bottle of wine maybe a wine of my choice," says Johnston.
No one spoke against the bill. It now goes to the senate floor for further debate.
