Military Spouse Compensation
Air Date:02/07/2012
The Senate Commerce and Energy Committee passed a bill that allows military spouses to receive unemployment compensation if they leave their jobs because of a military transfer.
Proponents of Senate Bill eighty seven say the proposed legislation will keep families together.
Cathy Brechtelsbauer - a citizen of the state - testified saying the bill will also produce other advantages for military families.
It really helps when the other spouse can move along with the relocated spouse and in many cases these will be families that we're hoping will stay here after they're out of the military and I think this is a good way to not just keep families together, reduce stress, but promote getting talented people into our state," Brechtelsbauer said.
There were no opponents for the proposed legislation. The bill passed with a unanimous vote.
