The State Senate passed a bill to help small towns attract more doctors and dentists.
The bill seeks to enhance a program that helps rural communities land healthcare professionals.
Republican Senator Ried Holien of Watertown says Senate Bill 177 includes a tuition reimbursement program with a proven track record of success.
The legislation is part of the Governor's workforce initiative program.
"So far there have been 31 healthcare professionals that have been lured to rural South Dakota communities and out of those 22 have stayed and continued to work in those communities after their requirement has expired," Holien said.
The legislation passed the Senate floor unanimously. It's headed for the House next.
