Bully Prevention
Air Date:02/14/2012
The State Senate passed a bill that requires school districts to adopt or revise bullying policies.
Senator Dan Lederman of Dakota Dunes says schools will meet certain requirements to provide safe and secure learning surroundings for students.
"The requirements are few but firm. They simply ask that a statement against bullying used in each policy that defines the behavior and the second requirement would eliminate any language pertaining to protected classes. Members of the committee understood the most important focus of this bill was student safety. No matter what the student's race, color, or creed was. This bill is about protecting children, period," Lederman said.
The Senate passed the bill with a twenty-seven to seven majority vote. The legislation heads to a House Committee.
