HIV Prevention

The Senate Health and Human Services committee passed a bill that provides mandatory HIV testing for any person convicted of prostitution or solicitation of prostitution and provide appropriate use of the test results.
Doneen Hollingsworth is the Secretary for the Department of Health.
She says the state law requires healthcare providers to report communicable disease like HIV to DOH. House Bill 1263 requires certain individuals receive immediate testing.
Hollingsworth says people identified with HIV are interviewed by staff members of DOH and are educated about disease transmission and prevention.
"We interview them about their sex partners, we talk to them if they were sharing needles, and we ask for the names of those partners. They aren't required to give us those names but our staff has a very good rapport and they're really good at what they do," Hollingsworth said.
The bill was passed as amended and heads to the Senate floor.
