Joint Appropriations Committee Receiving Early Figures
Air Date:02/16/2012
Legislative Research Council budget analysts met with the State Joint Appropriations Committee today (Thursday). They're responsible for setting up the governor's budget proposal to be approved by lawmakers each year. Conditions are apparently better than last year's budget, which saw large shortfalls and budget reductions to balance the ledger. Budget Analyst Terry Miller says Governor Dennis Daugaard is looking to spend more money this year, and add full-time equivalencies to several departments.
Miller says "Total adds as requested by the Governor is 153 million-and then the FTE's being added in the proposed budget is 69-point-nine."
The Appropriations Committee is scheduled to receive official budget numbers from the Governor and L-R-C next week.
