The Center for Western Studies at Augustana College is featuring the exhibit "Interpretations of Wounded Knee 1973 and 1890," which recognizes the impact of two events in Northern Plains, Indian and American history. Twenty-four artists are featured in the exhibit which runs through May 26. Joining Karl Gehrke are artist Jerry Fogg and Tim Hoheisel, Director of Outreach and Promotion for the Center for Western Studies.
Nearly one thousand students from tribal colleges and universities are gathering in Rapid City Saturday through Tuesday for the 31st Annual American Indian Higher Education Consortium student conference. Oglala Lakota College is hosting this year's event and the school's president, Thomas Short Bull, joins today's show.
Jazz musician and Omaha native Frank Basile is on tour with tenorman Rob Scheps. They'll appear at Touch of Europe in Sioux Falls on Saturday. Basile, since moving to New York City in 2001, has become one of the most in-demand baritone saxophonists. It's been five years since Basile last played in Sioux Falls.
